While I love and am hugely grateful for the internet as a research tool now, in my work, HO-LY am I ever glad that I went through school at a time when we still referenced books almost exclusively. I didn’t have internet in my home until the end of my 3rd year, and even then I didn’t trust it much, as a source. As a result, I think I looked for photos of Gillian Anderson more than any other “research topic”.

Study shows students rely on search engines to determine credibility of online sources. University students are too trusting of internet search engines, according to a study published in the International Journal of Communication. The paper, authoured by a group of communication researchers at Northwestern University concluded that students considered a website credible if it was placed at the top of a Google, or other name brand, search engine.

That’s really depressing. And funny since I posted last week about googling myself, internet monikers and real name alike.
